Fire Index Notice

FIRE ADVISORY IN EFFECT
 
Due to wildfire hazard, a Fire Advisory is in place for the Westlock County Protection Area.
 
RESTRICTIONS ARE AS FOLLOWS:
•             No Permits will be issued for Fireworks.
•             No Backcountry Fires.
 
AUTHORIZED BURNING IN WESTLOCK COUNTY DURING A FIRE ADVISORY ARE AS FOLLOWS:
Person is totally responsible for the safe control of burning herein authorized.
 
·         Fire permits may still be issued for open burning at the discretion of the fire guardian all requests will be evaluated on a case-by-case basis.
 
·         Burning of unharvested crop/s must contact a fire guardian for a permit and may be at the discretion of the fire guardian
 
·         Fires in random municipal and private campgrounds within designated fire rings.
 
·         Backyard Fire Pits must be minimum of three (3) meter clearance, measured from the nearest fire pit edge is maintained from buildings, property lines, or other combustible material and have a mesh screen with openings no larger than 12.5 mm and constructed of expanded metal (or equivalent non-combustible material), gas or propane stove barbeques.
 
·         Burn Barrel use within the hamlet is not permitted.  Burn Barrels shall be constructed of non-combustible material, shall be free of damage, shall be covered with a tight fitting metal mesh screen with openings not more than 6mm in size, shall be located on a non-combustible material base, and shall be located at least 3 meters away from any combustibles.
(No person shall burn prohibited materials in a Burning Barrel)
 
 ALL FIRES SHALL BE:
Supervised and extinguished during windy dry conditions. If you are burning, you SHALL have water and extinguishing equipment handy and ready.
 
Westlock County urges everyone to use extreme caution when harvesting or driving in grassy areas and
recommend to have firefighting water and equipment handy to control a spreading field fire.
