Effective Friday June 1, 2018 Fire Advisory is now in effect for Westlock County Protection Area. Should conditions change restrictions may follow.
ADVISORY ARE AS FOLLOWS:
Westlock County will only be issuing 3 days essential burn permits for field preparation and yard cleanup of small brush and debris with strict conditions. Guardian has the authority to refuse any or all Permits issued for Large Brush Piles/Rows at this time.
Fire Permits must be obtained for all open fires and including Fireworks, please contact your local fire guardian or county office for more information.
Any Fire Hazard or Fireworks/exploding targets is subject to fines in accordance with the Westlock County Fire Bylaw 05-2015 as per Policy No.7.09
ACCEPTABLE BURNING IN WESTLOCK COUNTY DURING A FIRE ADVISORY ARE AS FOLLOWS:
- Fires in managed municipal campgrounds within designated fire rings.
- Backyard Fire Pits must be minimum of three (3) meter clearance, measured from the nearest fire pit edge is maintained from buildings, property lines, or other combustible material and have a mesh screen with openings no larger than 12.5 mm and constructed of expanded metal (or equivalent non-combustible material), gas or propane stove barbeques.
- Engineered Incinerators
- Burn Barrel use within the hamlet is not permitted. Burn Barrels shall be constructed of non-combustible material, shall be free of damage, shall be covered with a tight fitting metal mesh screen with openings not more than 6mm in size, shall be located on a non-combustible material base, and shall be located at least 3 meters away from any combustibles.
- Permit Fires
(No person shall burn prohibited materials in a Burning Barrel)
PLEASE ENSURE THAT ALL FIRES ARE:
Supervised and extinguished during windy dry conditions. If you are burning you SHALL have water, and extinguishing equipment handy and ready.
Westlock County urges everyone to use extreme caution when working or driving in grassy areas, be mindful of hot exhaust and keep vehicles clean and free of debris as smoldering debris can fall off and start fires.

A person in violation under this ban will be responsible for the costs of extinguishing the fire pursuant to the Westlock County Bylaw No. 05-2015 and may be charged under the Forest and Prairie Protection Act.
