Community Grant Opportunities

Westlock County Council recognizes the contribution residents make to their community by delivering a service, recreation or leisure activity through local Community Centers within Westlock County.  It is the intention of Westlock County to support these volunteer agencies and local service groups that support community growth, through construction, upgrades or re-development enhancing the lifespan of public use facilities through this grant funding policy. The following will guide and govern decisions made by the County about how funds within its control are used to invest in our community each financial year.

Westlock County Community Grant

The Westlock County Community Grant Program has awarded capital, project, and operational grants, hamlet mowing and clean up and gravel grants, assistance grants to young athletes, and scholarships to students to community organizations and residents through the Community Grant application process.  Due to an increase in the number of operating funding requests from the community, the Budget Committee reflected on how to provide equitable distribution of funding to all the community organizations requesting it. During Budget 2019 discussions, Council directed administration to condense into one policy a process for all eligible community groups to apply for funding from the County that encompasses gravel, project, capital and operating grant requests. It is intended to provide a clear process for all groups to utilize and to have all requests considered by council at one time in each fiscal year so that all requests are reviewed at the same time and given the same opportunity for consideration. Applications will be reviewed and awarded by Westlock County Council and Applicants will be notified by mail or e-mail by Westlock County once the budget is approved in April 2022.  For subsequent fiscal years the deadline to apply will be mid-September of the prior year:

Westlock County Hamlet Mowing and Community Cleanup Grant

Westlock County Council supports community activities to beautify and maintain aesthetic communities within the County.  Council also recognizes that non-profit organizations are often involved in these beautification activities, and face challenges in obtaining funds for community activities.  In recognition of the economic challenges faced by the non-profit community organizations, and toward the objective of improving community aesthetics, Council will provide grant funding to non-profit community organizations in County Hamlets for community clean-ups, and for mowing of grass on Community Hall properties, parks, and playgrounds.
