Westlock County Council Briefs – March 11, 2008

Westlock County received confirmation from Alberta Municipal Affairs that the County
will receive a one-time grant totaling $26,633.00 to assist the County in establishing an
overall capital asset record system. Commencing in 2009, all municipalities must
calculate and include depreciation expense in all of their future financial statements. In
order to calculate the depreciation expense a comprehensive review of all assets including
road infrastructure must be made.

The County’s Open House will be held on April 29, 2008 from 3:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. at
the Westlock & District Community Hall.

Council adopted the 2008 Westlock and District Ambulance Authority’s budget to reflect
the increase level of service from Basic Life Support to Advanced Life Support. The
increase in service will cost the County an additional $44,600.00 for 2008. The
Advanced Life Support will have a minimum of one Emergency Medical Technician and
one Paramedic responding to all emergency calls. The staff will have the ability to
administer medications, and some of the enhanced service performed would include the
advanced cardiac monitoring and initiate blood infusions.

The County’s 2008 Operating Budget totaling $15,264,267.00 and a capital budget of
$2,902,290.00 were adopted by Council.

The Westlock & District Transportation Committee presented its 2008 Operating Budget
to Council. The Council approved the Budget which included transferring $22,300.00 of
Provincial conditional grant from the County to the Committee.
