Recreation and Tourism Inventory Coordinator

Start and End: April 26, 2010 - August 31, 2010 - Possible extension into October
Status:  Full time seasonal position
Salary:  Competitive

Job Description:
Working with Westlock County in partnership with Alberta Sustainable Resource and Development to build a tourism/recreation inventory and classification system that will be applied to the Westlock County area to streamline tourist and recreational activity management and advertising while managing the human impact and protecting sensitive areas on the landscape.

Qualifications required include:
Diploma or enrollment in Forestry Technology, Earth Science, Wildlife and Fisheries Conservation or Degree or enrollment in Forestry or related fields.
Valid class 5 drivers license
Acceptable ATV training and the ability to operate all manner of ATV’s and 4x4 trucks in an off-highway capacity or desire to achieve
Knowledge and understanding of the Occupational Health and Safety Regulations requirements
Ability to organize and prioritize to a rapidly changing work environment and heavy workload
Computer literate in MS Office and GIS databases
Ability to make quick, sound decisions with information provided, in a fast paced, result orientated environment.
Strong negotiation, mediation and interpersonal skills

Weed/Clubroot Coordinator and General Maintenance

Start and End:  June 15, 2010 - Sept. 15, 2010- Ability to adjust start and end dates
Status:    Full time seasonal summer position

Job Description:
Westlock County has a Summer Position available in the Agricultural Services Department for a weed program/clubroot program coordinator and general maintenance.

Key responsibilities include:
Mapping and documentation of all weed infestations
Contact with landowners to achieve weed control compliance
Mapping and documentation of clubroot of canola inspection areas
Conduct insect and pest surveys

Qualifications required include:
Valid Alberta class 5 vehicle license (Abstract required)
Ability to keep daily detailed records/reports of weed and clubroot infestations and control efforts
Previous Field Scouting experience would be an asset 
Maintains a knowledge base of current farming methods
Must poses well developed communication skills and interpersonal skills
Provides technical expertise and advice to owner/occupant of the land in relation to the County weed program and clubroot of canola
Ability to work under minimal supervision
Must be willing to learn and participate in other tasks, as assigned 
Good physical condition to perform both field and office duties
Maintain and promote a positive image to Westlock County residents
Hours of work may be adjusted seasonally

Key responsibilities include:

Qualifications required include:
Valid Alberta class 5 drivers license (Abstract required)
Preference will be given to individuals with experience in agriculture
Ability to work under minimal supervision
Must be willing to learn and participate in other tasks, as assigned
Good physical condition to perform both field and office duties
Hours of work may be adjusted seasonally
Maintain and promote a positive image to Westlock County residents
